DēsAL™ GRHS Program

Last updated: September 18, 2026

1. About This Program

The DēsAL™ GRHS Program (“the Program,” “we,” “us,” “our”) is operated by DESAL LLC, a Florida limited liability company:

DESAL LLC
7901 4th St N, Ste 300
St. Petersburg, FL 33702
kkellin@desalhealth.org

The Program is a health and wellness research program conducted with the varsity football program at Grand Rapids High School (“GRHS”), run by Kevin Kellin of DESAL LLC together with Head Coach Greg Spahn, with Dr. Jay Sutliffe of Northern Arizona University (“NAU”) serving as Principal Investigator.

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of the Program’s website (desalhealth.org), text messaging (SMS) communications, and related online forms. They apply to enrolled participants (players and coaching staff) and, where applicable, their parents or legal guardians.

These Terms are separate from, and do not replace, the informed consent document you signed to participate in the research study. That consent governs your participation in the research itself. These Terms govern your use of this website and the text messaging service.

2. Eligibility

The Program is available only to individuals enrolled in the DēsAL GRHS Program — GRHS varsity football players and coaching staff who have completed enrollment and consent — and, for participants under 18, their parent or legal guardian.

Most participants are minors. If you are under 18, you may use the text messaging service and web forms only where a parent or legal guardian has consented as part of enrollment, including consent to send messages to the mobile number provided.

3. SMS / Text Messaging Program

How you join

You are enrolled in Program text messaging when you, or your parent or legal guardian, provide a mobile number and give consent on the DēsAL GRHS enrollment form. We do not add anyone to Program messaging without that consent.

Consent to receive text messages is not a condition of participating in the Program. You can take part fully without ever receiving a text.

What we send

By joining, you agree to receive recurring text messages from the Program, including:

  • Weekly skin carotenoid scan (SCS) reminders
  • Weekly micro-action and check-in reminders
  • DCOA assessment reminders at baseline, three months, and six months

All Program messages are operational. We do not send marketing or promotional messages.

Message bodies use the plain text form “DesAL” so that every message fits a single standard segment. Sample message: “DesAL: Scan day is tomorrow. See Coach Spahn before practice. Reply STOP to end, HELP for help.”

Frequency, rates, and controls

Message frequency varies. Up to 5 messages per week.

Message and data rates may apply. Charges from your mobile carrier are your responsibility.

To stop receiving texts, reply STOP to any Program message at any time. You will receive one confirmation message and no further messages.

For help, reply HELP to any Program message, or contact Kevin Kellin at kkellin@desalhealth.org.

Supported carriers include most major US wireless carriers. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

Stopping texts is not withdrawing from the study

Replying STOP ends text communications only. To withdraw from the research study, follow the process described in your original consent document, or contact us directly.

4. Not Medical Advice

Information provided through the Program, including scan results, reminders, and micro-action suggestions, is for research and program engagement purposes only.

It is not medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment, and it is not a substitute for consultation with a qualified healthcare provider. The Program does not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. Program staff and facilitators are not acting as licensed healthcare providers, and nothing in the Program is a clinical assessment.

About the scan specifically: the Prysm iO device estimates carotenoid pigment stored in skin, which is an indicator of plant-food intake over roughly the previous month. It is not a medical device, and it does not measure inflammation, antioxidant status, disease risk, or overall health. A scan result is not a health assessment.

If you have a health concern, contact a licensed medical professional. If you are experiencing a medical emergency, call 911.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to use the Program’s website or messaging service to:

  • Impersonate another participant or program staff member
  • Submit false information on any program form
  • Attempt to access another participant’s data
  • Use the service for any purpose outside the Program’s stated research and communication purposes

6. Data and Privacy

Your information is collected and used as described in our Privacy Policy. Please review it. No mobile information is shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.

7. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The “Last updated” date above will change. Material changes will be communicated to enrolled participants, and to parents or guardians where applicable. Continued use of the website or messaging service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, DESAL LLC, its members, staff, GRHS, Independent School District 318, and Northern Arizona University are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising from use of this website or messaging service, including delayed, undelivered, or misdirected text messages.

Nothing in these Terms limits any liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.

9. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, without regard to conflict of law principles.

10. Severability and Entire Agreement

If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in effect. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and DESAL LLC regarding the website and messaging service. They do not modify the signed research consent.
